The Gunslinger introduces readers to one of Stephen King’s most powerful creations, Roland of Gilead: The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which mirrors our own in frightening ways, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Review:
I'm not quite sure how to feel about this book. To be honest, it wasn't my favorite thing I've read by him. I felt like a lot of the story kind of flew over my head. I don't know if I had the movie in mind or what, but some things that happened were a little hard to wrap my head around. Oddly enough I feel committed now and want to read the rest of the series as if heard the books get better. Now I can't do a review of the book without mentioning the movie. I'm usually the type of person who likes to read the book before I see the film, but in this case I'm actually really happy I didn't read the before I watched the movie. I know I would've been sorely disappointed as the movie felt like a completely different thing. It's like they took the 3 characters and made up their own story about them. Granted, I actually liked the movie. With that being said, I can now read the series for what it is and appreciate the two mediums as two separate entities.
